Truck Driver/Articulating Crane Operator/Operation

Job Summary:

The Jobholder is responsible for driving the company trucks and other vehicles and operating the articulating crane on the 10-ton truck, assisting the company with all operational transport-related duties in a safe manner which may include:

• Transport of ship spares from the relevant Bustoms Bonds to the Ports and reverse.
• Collecting or delivering shipments and products for import, export and local in a timely manner.
• Collect delivery shipping documents from the shipping lines when required.
• Transport the company management and staff to and from the port and to meetings.
• Meet, greet and transport ship crew and visitors from the Airport to the hotels and vessels.
• Assist with ship crew sign on and off at Customs and Immigration.
• Assist with pick-up and delivery of provisions and stores for the vessels.
• Operate articulating crane on 10-ton truck.

The jobholder works closely with Managerial & Directorial staff in providing this support, usually on a one-and one basis. He/She will also assist the management team to make the best use of their time by dealing with Operational tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate the company’s trucks and articulate crane on the 10-ton vehicle to ensure the efficient and effective transportation of shipments, ship spares, and support for vessel operations. Execute all related services in alignment with the company’s standards, ensuring client requirements are met with the highest level of professionalism and reliability.

• Maintaining a travel log to record work hours when using the company vehicles.
• Providing accurate time records of the company vehicles coming and going.
• Document and log work periods, activities and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel receipts.
• Assist and carry out all the operational activities of the Company as delegated.
• Sign on and sign off of ship’s crew with Customs and Immigration.
• Meet, greet and transport of vessel crew and visitors from and to the Airport, Hotels and Seaports.
• Transport and assist with deliveries of provisions and stores to the vessels.
• Conduct daily inspections of vehicles every morning to ensure there is no mechanical, safety or damage to the vehicles while ensuring to perform preventative maintenance where necessary.
• Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicles require, keep track of general maintenance schedules, tyre conditions, oil levels and Licensing inspection and renewal dates.
• Keep track of timely vehicles insurance renewals.
• Any equipment or mechanical issues should be immediately reported to the Directors/Management.
• Promptly inform the company of any tickets issued against the company vehicles during work hours.
• Ensure the company vehicles are always parked in safe areas and avoid tow away areas.
• Comply with the Licensing Authority driving rules and regulations as well as with company policies and procedures at all times. Stay within legal speed limits.
• Keep the vehicles clean and properly maintained with regular car wash and detailing services to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness.
• Report any accidents, injuries, and vehicles damages to directors/management.
• Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions.
• Adjust but report to the office about any route changes while trying to avoid heavy traffic or road construction.

ADHOC DUTIES

• Maintain a professional attitude and appearance when dealing with clients.
• Deliver exceptional customer service with clients.
• Learn, promote and demonstrate the value of the services of SSSL.
• Try to market the services of SSSL when interacting with new or repeat clients.
• Maintain a positive personal image when on and off duty as you represent the Brand of SSSL.

Administrative support:

• Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures of SSSL and good Health & Safety practices at all times.
• Maintain vehicle maintenance schedules, including data management and filing.
• Provide STOW reports as assigned by directors and management.
• Meet and greet visitors at the Airport, Hotels and Vessels.
• Assist Management with information as required.
• Maintain customer confidence and protect the operations by keeping information confidential.
• Any other duties assigned by directors and management.
• Safety must be adhered to at all times. Safe to Work. (STOW)

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Five GCE O’Level passes or equivalent, Grades I, II or lll, including Mathematics and English Language.
• Valid Heavy Transport Driver’s License.
• Articulating Crane Operator’s Certification.
• Defensive Driving Certificate.
• Banksman Certificate.

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• At least two (2) years’ experience in a similar position.
• Heavy Transport Driver’s License.
• Must have a clean driving record.
• Articulating Crane Operator’s Certification.
• Police certificate of good character required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Integrity and trustworthiness.
• Able to work on weekends and public holidays if required.
