Civil Engineer

Job Title: Civil Engineer

Job Summary: To plan, design and execute water and wastewater infrastructure projects to meet established success criteria.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in pre-tender activities for the award of consultancy, contracts and agreements
  2. Assist in technical and feasibility studies and site investigations as required.
  3. Assist in planning construction methods and procedures.
  4. Support the Programme Manager in Managing and supervising consultants/contractors and advise on engineering issues
  5. Support the Programme Manager in Managing and supervising work to comply with all regulations, standards and applicable laws.
  6. Review designs to make sure that design requirements are met.
  7. Prepare budgets and other project resources.
  8. Prepare progress reports produced by consultant/ contractors and make recommendations for corrective action where necessary.
  9. Produce monthly progress reports on each project assigned.
  10. Support the Programme Manager in Certifying completion of works/services.
  11. Assist in reviewing requests for payments for each project.
  12. Participate in Stakeholder Engagement.
  13. Ensure compliance with relevant Regulations for projects such as Town and Country, EMA, CEC, EIA etc.
  14. Together with such other tasks as required by the Departmental Manager and which are appropriate up to the grading level of the post.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Analytical ability

Job Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum experience: Four years (4) years of experience in the field of engineering, construction or project management.
  • Preferred additional requirements
    • Geotechnical Experience
    • Familiarity with the use of all FIDIC Standard Form Contracts
    • Experience in supervision of Design Consultants and Works Contractors
    • Experience in preparing Tender Documents with related specification.
    • Experience in supporting the management of complex projects.

Short-term contract – 1 Year, in the first instance, under the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) execution arrangement.
